(1) WHY this site?

John McCain is very active on Twitter and has over 1 million followers.  While I wouldn’t consider him a great Tweeter, his massive following makes him worth profiling.

John McCain is a senator from Alaska.  He started using Twitter seriously after his 2008 run for president and has gained well over a million followers.  His profile is very popular, and he updates it often, but he rarely interacts with followers.

(5) Analysis

A. General – B
(A.1) Background – McCain’s background is plain blue, which is pretty boring and misses a lot of opportunity for branding and providing followers with more information about himself.  C
(A.2) Avatar – His avatar is good – the picture is clearly John McCain, and I appreciate that it is slightly artistic without being overwhelming.  A
(A.3) Bio – His bio clearly states who he is, but I think it misses an opportunity to tell more about himself.  Where is the call to action?  B
(A.4) Transparency  – The profile appears to be run by McCain, and there is nothing to indicate it is not.  The only thing that would help more would be if it was a verified account.  A
(A.5) Bio Link – The bio link is good, as it goes to his senate website.  A

B. Tweets – B-
(B.1) Replies – 19/100
(B.2) ReTweets – 0/100
(B.3) DM requests -0
(B.4) Hashtags – #
(B.6) Narrative summary – McCain hasn’t used any RTs or #s.  He does reply on occasion, but quite a few have oddly been to Rainn Wilson.  He may have accused Obama of being a movie star, but it seems he wants to be one as well.

C. Questions/Suggestions
(C.1) QMy main question would be why McCain hasn’t done more to make his profile look good.  Certainly he has a staff member somewhere that has a good sense of style!
(C.2) Suggestions for improvement – The most important thing McCain needs to improve on is his use of hashtags.  I understand why he doesnt use @ replies a lot, since he certainly gets flooded with messages.  However, he would be able to enter conversations more easily if he used proper hashtags.

E. Conclusion
(E.1) Narrative – John McCain has done a great job building up a lot of followers, but not necessarily a great job engaging with them.  He also could use some work on the basic appearance of his profile.  Overall, I’m not terribly impressed by his profile.
(E.2) Scorecard Summary
