Sims BioTwitter bio: C
There is no website link, and the bio only says “Housing and Urban Development.” If you didn’t already know who Ron Sims was, you would have no way of knowing he is a government official.

Picture 10Avatar: B
Sims’s avatar is picture is fine, but the proportions are off so it looks stretched. He needs to crop it so it is proportional.

Background: B
Sims is using a stock background, which I don’t think is terrible. It’s better to have a plain one that a poorly made one! Since it is already clear who is tweeting, he doesn’t need an additional picture of him on the side.

Transparency: A
From reading his Tweets, it is very obvious this is Ron Sims. Sims also does a good job of responding to people. In fact, I got a DM from him in the winter when I responded to one of his Tweets.

Use of Twitter: As of 11:43 p.m. PST on Sunday, July 19, 2009, I reviewed the previous 100 tweets and found:

  • 12were retweets
  • 0 were @ replies
  • 0 were #

Twitter strategy:
Almost all of Ron Sims’s Tweets start with “Reading:” followed by a link. He is primarily using Twitter as a news sharing service. While he doesn’t publicly respond to people, I know from experience he uses DMs to respond. He doesn’t seem to be using Twitter to spread political messages.

Conclusion:
Ron Sims needs to put some work in on his bio, avatar, and background. Besides that, he does a decent job with his Tweets. I would like to see him use more public @ replies, rather than stick to DMs. It is possible he is using DMs so he can hide some of his more political statements.

An interesting note about Ron Sims is that he changed his account from @ronsims to @simsron when he was given his position at the Obama Adminsitration. I’m not actually sure why he did this. I think I’ll send him a tweet and ask…

Clearly Ron is not going to be someone you use as a exemplary politician! No conversation!

Agreed – certainly not exemplary. I think he has changed his style quite a bit, unfortunately. I remember him being quite active, engaging, and personal when I first was following him in December. I wonder if he decided he needed to change due to his new position at the Obama administration.
